    Sexual Transference
    Emmalita Shakim · 02/14/01 at 12:14 ET

I would like to discuss the pros and cons of viewing sexual transference as an infantile pathology v. as a spiritual symbology. I have read Deborah Lott's answer to Paddy from 1999, and I have written my own articles and book reviews on erotic transference. I have not seen enough discussion on how well or poorly it serves the client, outside of any actual acting out, to treat such feelings as regressive or progressive. I tend to agree with John Haule, author of The Love Cure, that once basic wounds (such as incest wounds) have been healing, it is more therapeutic to see such feelings as individuating. To me it is only when the feelings are treated as neurotic that they become obsessive.
