Dr. Erickson mentions that basically all trance inductions are inner confusions (Hypnotic Realities pg 106-107.) It feels to me like that might be harmful to a person's sense of Self or 'inner reality.' He says talking about trance, it's "confusion about the surrounding reality which in ordinary life is always clear." This seems less than actually helpful to a person. His work raises alot of issues!
