Hi Lindsay!! yes! I heard about it and saw pictures. It must be quite impressive to see it next to you though...I have not really done anything or reasearched about the universality of the transe and its common characterisics and purposes in terms of cure and healing( or reconnection, balance and what have you!), but I have like a huge hunch that the cultural factors and the different rituals are just a mask veiling what it really is..This is why I have to read a bit more about Erickson..I was most impressed by the shamans of Java (?) becoming panthers javalis or buffles and adquiring even the poison immunity of certain foods, toxic to humans but ok for the wild pork for instance (the raw yucca root).
Absence of pain is one of the interesting factors in trance induction that I would love to aplly in my job. I am currently a psych nurse but am studing for my masters in Nurse Midwifery.Cross cultural nursing and religious anthropology ( with ethnospychiatry and ethnobotany) are my hobbies and I do forecast to integrate them in the course of my studies..:-))
