I'm beginning research on gender switching online as it relates to social psychology and sexuality studies. So... questions like: In which demographics is gender-switching most popular / what are typical psychographics of participants / how common is it / why doesn't everyone try it? / its perception in web communities / outcomes of gender switching / and, for habitual 'switchers', how does this affect or enhance their interpersonal non-web lives? I'm sure logging in as a female if you're male, and vice versa is _very_ popular, but have yet to find anyone to offer some quotes from experience. I refuse to believe it's as 'taboo' as I'm told. Have you come across any articles, researchers, or friends who would chat about this? Or could you suggest any areas I might try to find those familiar with this? The basic theory is that we have the option to create as many engendered identities as we have time and inclination to... so how many people do and what are the effects of this on the individual and community? Any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated - and of course all words are confidential - you won't be quoted unless you want to be - don't be shy!!
