Re: Reporting sex offenses as an adult survivor

I can't get into specifics, even if I did know, but let me say a few things about sexual abuse. The consequences of sexual abuse on the victim are more far reaching than the average person realizes. It may not be immediately noticeable, but problems resurface later as adolescence and adulthood approach, in the form of depression, unexplained fears and hangups, all sorts of reactions that are not obviously related to the abuse. Sexual abuse, even when perpetrated in a "friendly" fashion, is devastating to the core. It attacks the individual's ability to trust anyone to be what they seem to be, or to trust their own judgement. I have seen too much of this in my practice already.
