    Re: Reporting sex offenses as an adult survivor
    Marty Klein, Ph.D. · 12/14/02 at 4:47 PM ET

    This respondent makes two common errors:
    1. blatantly misreading what I clearly wrote;
    2. generalizing to an entire population from 1 case (her son's).
    I will simply quote verbatim from my last post:

    While the consequences of adult-child sexual interactions are FREQUENTLY DEVASTATING to the child, such experiences, according to DOZENS of peer-reviewed studies, are often of NO serious damage. This is something we should celebrate--that people are that resilient.

    As professionals, I believe we have an affirmative obligation to challenge misunderstanding and distortion of important mental health facts, even when it makes others uncomfortable.
