thank you for your reply! haveing used chat for a few years now i have found that just a sentence with the correct paraphrases and emphasises on certian words that sometimes is not enough to relay what is actually been meant! i would have to disagree therefore to your remark about conveying things with just words! surely as human beings alone we all use body language and facial expressions to portray our emotions wether they be of indifference or of total happiness? therefore my theory that we all use at some stage a emote may it be a :O) or a **lol** to give an "impression" of happiness or sad :(
also chat is used for not just sexual intentions but also for discussions such as this but quick and imediate reaction , without the reaction bit then how ( without emotes) is one able to interprete a reaction? for instance if you asked me "what do you think?"
and i replied "good!!!!!!!!! :O)"
would that not be better than just "good" in conveying enthusiasm and other such emotions? also with chat it is not the intention of supreme literacy as more often than not a person will not even be " picked up" on grammer and such like, it is designed as a conversation, and is usually used as such. although i have to agree that the sender is usually trying to minimise confrontation!
excuse me if i have got this totally wrong as i am merley an undergrad!! ***S** there i used one!
