All human beings are fallible, including therapists. I am not scared of making mistakes - often as you point out acknowledging my own fallibility with clients allows them to accept their own,in this imperfect world. But I have to act responsibly. For me that entails being clear about the purpose of any therapeutic intervention. Being clear about what my fear means - Timing is an important issue, because you need to be aware how a particular client will cope and how safe they feel. By exploring this case further and the issues it brought up, for me is part of being responsibe. It is part of challenging my own thinking but also, about listening to my gut feeling. I am only exploring the 'What if...'
Its also about the fact that therapists, learn from their clients too...its a collaborative process.
