    What Causes Paraphilias?
    Sele · 01/07/01 at 7:50 PM ET

I have several questions about paraphilias. What causes both sadism and masochism? Does it just happen or does child abuse cause it. Is it the suffering of the victim arrousing to them or is it the feeling that they have total control of the victim who can't reject them. In masochism how come the person finds pain arousing. How does pedophilia happen? Is it also caused by child abuse or childhood events or is it because the adult knows he/she won't be rejected by the child. Is necrophilia caused by childhood events or is it similer to the idea that the necrophiliac won't be rejected by the corpse?

I have read about several explinations for S&M, but they are difficult to understand. I read somewhere sadism has to do with the fear of being castrated and masochism has to do with the "death instinct" and wanting to be castrated. Are those theories true?

Thank you for answering my questions
