My experience is that the relationship is the only thing that matters and that technique ( because believe me, it is obvious ) undermines the trust between the two people involved. Maybe that is particular to me but I would guess not. The most upsetting and damaging thing about therapy is suspecting that everything is technique.
One can hardly be considered to have problems with trust when it may well be true that it is all technique. A therapist who is not afraid to put all that stuff down and actually be with the patient is a real find.
