You have to understand that the therapists who care too much run the risk of going insane from dealing with the psychological problems of many people. They have to be detached and adhere to techniques unless they are so strong that no patient’s problem will pull them into the person’s insanity. Mental illness is indeed an illness and may soon be found to be highly contagious. If you spend a lot of time around a chronically depressed person don’t be surprised if you find yourself becoming chronically depressed. I personally feel that putting mentally ill people around other mentally ill people feeds the illness and makes it much stronger. If you put a burning piece of paper in contact with another burning piece of paper do you honestly feel that the fire will decrease because of the contact?
