I realize this is a forum for professionals and I felt that I must make a statement. My therapist is trained in hypnosis and does not use it without my permission. I have not been comfortable with it and he respected that discomfort and my right to choose. I believe that it is highly disrepectful to use any technique a client is uncomfortable with and/or says no to. Clients have the right to choose, if the therapist does not respect that right then how can the client trust him/her? My therapist and I discuss what I want to do, work at and the possibilities. If something is suggested and I do not want to go that route then we just don't. I am given the responsibility of deciding what is best for me at that moment, of deciding what I want. My life is my responsibility, my decisions are my responsibility. I am trusted to know what it is I want. I belief that using covert hypnotic techniques is quite disrepectful of the client and, I will dare to say, quite unprofessional.
