There certainly are a wide variety of online environments, Anitah - which is what makes cyberspace so fascinating and such a powerful environment for experimenting with different community formats. You emphasize how people go out of their way to stay connected - which is true. I'm also struck by how tenuous some communities can be. I've seen many come and go. With just a click, people can enter a community, and if things don't work out, they can click out of it and click into another.
