You've raised a complex issue, one which is I think what's important to look at is that anitah@channelvip.com
extremely difficult to analyze and interpret
on an objective level, because each situation
and each community has its own unique internal
dynamics.
human beings are extremely adaptive to different
environments, and while
this is a plus for our species it also
presents problems when the environment people
are adapting to is unhealthy. Once people
become emotionally and psychologically dependent
on a group they will do almost anything to
stay connected. Lying and misrepresenting oneself
in conformity to the collective easily become
the norm, no matter how damaging to oneself
and others. This is why this field of study
is so important. We must learn to understand
the complexities of human reactions to this
electronic medium in order to create healthy online environments.
