    Perhaps it would help to take a step back and allow the client to move toward you at her own rate? Maybe work on peripheral issues whil she develops trust in you? I can tell you from personal experience the more someone tried to get close, get me to open up, the more I shut down. In my own case the push to get closer felt way too similar to the abuser's tactics.

    It can be frustrating waiting for someone to learn to trust, but isn't one of the basic tenets of the profession - the client will chage when s/he is ready to and not before?
