Past-Life Regression Therapy

A friend of mine from Italy asked about past-life regression therapy, which his best friend is considering undergoing. I have heard of this, but am not familiar with it. I don't want to respond without seeking feedback from others who may be familiar with it. Ideas/experience? I personally think that past human experience is actually contained in our genes, which carry our mentalities from generation to generation. However, I also think that healing and wholeness is found NOW, regardless of the roots of our difficulties - thus the importance of relationship (in therapy or with close friends) and spirituality.

In any event, I'd appreciate some feedback from someone who has first-hand experience with past-life regression therapy, or knows someone who does. Thanks.
