Critical reflection is important if it is used in a focused way to examine concrete data. This, it seems to me is essential when you are discussing experiential learning and the examination of assumptions, especially in the light of new evidence that may contradict assumptions. However, reflection can become an obstacle if it takes on the qualities of obsessional preoccupation which leads nowhere at all except frustration. That is another matter.
