I have researched child abuse and my findings were that abuse is learned. In 1993, Charles Clark wrote an article about Child Sexual Abuse and states how studies show child abuse victim's are more likely to become abusers themselves. He also says that many abusive parents were themselves raised in abusive discordant environments, and violence was common. Those conditions then help produce adults who are unable too empathize with other human beings and who are inclined to use violence in interpersonal interactions.
