    Re:Behavioral Observations of Homosexuality--Question?
    I.M. Wondering · 7/26/99 at 9:38 am ET

I am wondering if it is noticeable that if one substituted the work "heterosexual" for "gay" or "lesbian" or "homosexual" and change some of the fashion accessories in the above posting, you have the same observations. Notice the substitution sentence by sentence!

    1. From what I read and have researched in the culture, I can agree completely with the idea that heterosexuality is very much a pyschological issue.

    2. I am facinated by the idea that female heterosexuality has the same inherent inferiority as heterosexual males.

    3. I have mostly observed males, because their culture is so much more visible. I find it rather hard to observe behavorial beginnings of heterosexuality in older individuals, as in this case, but rather in 15-25
yr olds who exibit bi-sexual or heterosexual behavior.

    4. I cannot speak on both female heterosexulaity and
male heterosexuality (is there an "ism" for male sexuality? If not let's invent one :) because I feel that the sexes exibit this behavior radically different.

    5. What most troubles me about male heteroxesual behavior is not only the short duration of realtionships, the LARGE number of relationships within a male lifetime, but also the more disturbing issues such as the tendancy I observe of heterosexuals to lean towards pedaphilia and completely anonymous sex acts.

    6. This flies in the face of the idea that heterosexuals are merely attention hungry introverts.

    7. Anonymous sex acts, so prevelant in heterosexual culture, are not by definition attention giving. [In case you happen to think heterosexuals also enjoy anonymous sex, have you ever wondered what goes on after hours with patrons of some strip clubs and during business hours at houses of prostitution?]

    8. In studying heterosexual teens and young adults, I do see the theory play out however... Many heterosexual males (I really want an "ism" about now)exibit flamboyant behavior, with young males wearing "jewelry", not in the female sense but more flamboyant as in wearing multiple rings on fingers, and most of this jewelry is silver and flashy (never in 250 cases has their been a gold colored ring on anyone's hand, now what does THAT tell us?). [You can make the necessary fashion accessory alterations here, such as tatoos or cologne or leather jackets in het-males and flashy cars or motorcycles.]

    9. They also wear tight clothing, flashy outfits, and this dress is extremely sexually suggestive usually. [Again, any needed fashion alterations are incidental details.]

    10. They prise thin over bulk, and everyone is blond seemingly. [Or with het-males, we could say they prize muscle over adipose and blonds are often regarded as highly desirable partners.]

    11. People intentionally try to look "girlish" (pedaphilia reference here). [Has anyone noticef youthful appearance of young het-female and male models?! Is not the cosmetics industry and the profssion of cosmetic surgery motivated by the search to look as young as possible? Have you looked at the het-models at the check-out stand magazines at the waiting line in a grocery store? The sexual appeal of youthful looks may have a highly unattractive hint of pedophilia, but this appeal to youthful looks is certainly nothing whatsoever unique to homosexuals!]

    12. This is all attention, so transparent it's almost sickening. [It makes sense that people who are trying to be sexually alluring should want to seek attention. I hadn't noticed attention seeking to be sickening. I just thought it was what humans do when they want to be alluring.]

    13. The interaction of heterosexual males is also revealing. They always state that there is alot of "drama", and from what I can tell it is very important for them to have "eventful lives".

    14. Meaning simply from what I see they have to have a feeling of importance in their lives, a sense of popularity, or of sexual superiority.

    15. Depression is substantial and is prevelant in all
the individuals, but then again it's 1999, and if depression was rare we wouldn't be so rich, would we?

    16. However there is always a sense of not being good enough, no matter what they accomplish (and accomplish is usually in a sexual nature).

    17. All of this points to the fact that I really... really... want to research this attention disorder as the source of heterosexuality.

I'm also wondering to what proportion of the hom/het poupulations any of these observations actually apply. Cetainly not all m/f hom/hets go in for anonymous sex. Of all the sexaully active hom/hets I've known, none thinks either the thin or the muscle look apeals to them in themselves or in their partners. But I believe that are people who like both kinds of looks.

I really wish Dr. Klein would moderate this forum so that we could get reactions to some of the postings here that go begging for infomed answers and more analyses.
