From what I read and have researched in the culture, I can agree completely with the idea that homosexuality is very much a pyschological issue. I am facinated by the idea that lesbianism has the same inherent inferiority as homosexual males. I have mostly observed males, because their culture is so much more visible. I find it rather hard to observe behavorial beginnings of homosexuality in older individuals, as in this case, but rather in 15-25 yr olds who exibit bi-sexual or homosexual behavior. I cannot speak on both lesbianism and male homosexuality (is there an "ism" for male sexuality? If not let's invent one :) ) because I feel that the sexes exibit this behavior radically different. What most troubles me about male homosexual behavior is not only the short duration of realtionships, the LARGE number of relationships within a male lifetime, but also the more disturbing issues such as the tendancy I observe of homosexuals to lean towards pedaphilia and completely anonymous sex acts. This flies in the face of the idea that homosexuals are merely attention hungry introverts. Anonymous sex acts, so prevelant in homosexual culture, are not by definition attention giving. In studying gay teens and young adults, I do see the theory play out however... Many homosexual males (I really want an "ism" about now)exibit flamboyant behavior, with young males wearing "jewelry", not in the female sense but more flamboyant as in wearing multiple rings on fingers, and most of this jewelry is silver and flashy (never in 250 cases has their been a gold colored ring on anyone's hand, now what does THAT tell us?). They also wear tight clothing, flashy outfits, and this dress is extremely sexually suggestive usually. They prise thin over bulk, and everyone is blond seemingly. People intentionally try to look "boyish" (pedaphilia reference here). This is all attention, so transparent it's almost sickening. The interaction of homosexual males is also revealing. They always state that there is alot of "drama", and from what I can tell it is very important for them to have "eventful lives" :) . Meaning simply from what I see they have to have a feeling of importance in their lives, a sense of popularity, or of sexual superiority. Depression is substantial and is prevelant in all the individuals, but then again it's 1999, and if depression was rare we wouldn't be so rich, would we? However there is always a sense of not being good enough, no matter what they accomplish (and accomplish is usually in a sexual nature). All of this points to the fact that I really... really... want to research this attention disorder as the source of homosexuality. Anyone want to read the paper? :)
