    And this fact cited by you may well prove to the undoing of the species. "Free-will and self-awareness," as you call them, are also traits of a species that may or may be adaptive depending on how they are used. In an age of overpoplulation, it would seem that the evidence you refer to in the above-quoted statement, if true, suggests that "self-aware free-will" is not now been used with species suvival in mind if we also believe the planet has finite resources.
