A manifestation of the primitive primate desire to test if a female is receptive.

Since eons have passed since victorian standards and society's morals have forbidden open primate sexual expression, modern males have resorted to simulation, now gone to the level of an unconcious act.

It is deviant in the moral sense, but not in the natural.

Bicycle seat sniffing is related.
