Kim, I too am new to this site and to the idea of internet counseling/therapy and am wrestling with the unique challlenges it imposes. Turning to the issue of professional/lay person interactions on public forums, I think it is an important one and bears more discussion. For example, I was following one discussion on the site Leonard hosts and found myself tempted to join with my own thoughts and advice. Then I began to ask myself a series of questions. Do I identify myself as a professional? Yes, I think I should. Will what I say carry more weight if I do? If so, do I want it to carry more weight? Is this kind of forum the right arena for me to be giving professional advice, since I'm not the host of the site? What is my real motivation for joining this discussion any way? Anyone have any thoughts? Shellie Miller
