    Hypnosis in the classroom
Ron Bell · 12/15/99 at 7:28 pm ET

I'm going to be presenting at the American Counseling Association's annual conference in March, describing a Math support class I developed at a community college. In the class, I use Ericksonian language and techniques to create an atmosphere conducive to learning, with reduced math anxiety and heightened motivation.

I'd like to include in my presentation any research that has been done on the use and/or effectiveness of Ericksonian language and techniques in the classroom.

Also, I anticipate that some participants who don't understand Ericksonian methods will feel threatened by the idea of "hypnotizing students". I do not formally hypnotize anyone in class but I believe that how any instructor presents material can be likened to a hypnotic induction.

I'd appreciate all comments and suggestions.

    Ron
