    Building a protector ego state
Maria Rosa Hauser · 4/27/99 at 6:21 PM ET

    Dear Jeff,

Thanks for your helpful comments. My client is 20 years old, and was sexually abused and then raped by her father's co-worker, when she was 5. She never dared to discuss this problems with anyone, until recently to her boyfriend. She decided to come to therapy, for the first time now, because she is suffering from depression. Her parents got divorced when she was 8, and ever since, her mother has recurrently kicked her out of her home for any incomprehensible number of reasons. Her father lives in another city and is not close to her. She wouldn't like to talk about her problems with her father neither. Her mother seems to be very hard on her, rejecting and not supportive. Another aspect is then, that she has problems not only talking about problems, but also recognizing her sorrow and rage feelings and she keeps them to herself. She says she doesn't like to cry, much less express her feelings to others.

On your council on building a protector ego state, I was only wondering if this could be achieved now, when her self-esteem is so low.

Thanks again for your support, Marķa Rosa
