"Dobson has been compared most often to Dr. Milton Erickson, the legendary psychiatrist and hypnotherapist. Dr. Dobson met Erickson once, late in his career after both had spent a lifetime developing a style that had many similarities.

In the 1970's Dobson met Richard Bandler and John Grinder as they were formulating Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP.) Bandler and Grinder were astounded that Dobson had come up with so many patterns which they had discovered in the work of Milton Erickson.
