I've noticed that some people who are activated by rebellion have to go to extreme limits to find their center. Like extremes including loneliness to get connected in love; a good deal over weight to become sexual and sensuous again; and bitter to become loving; self-deprivation to find self-respect and love; commands to 'go stay with your parents over the holidays' then might be considered a way to say, 'call your friends and connect with them', etc. So...my point is, that your comment is a very brilliant observation to add in this context. It really should point out to the 'newer' reader that the content of what Erickson did was not pertinent at any point. Rather, the process needs to be considered and studied. This 'lazy' thing might not be a 'serious' label for a client but rather a step away from depression, as you pointed out. Thanks for sharing you ideas.
