    Emotions
    Trent · 09/11/01 at 12:54 ET

One thing I've been bombarded with lately in my training is emotion. Many of my colleagues believe a client must learn to "feel" and experience emotion in order to promote change. For me, if a client wants to go there, I'll glady go with them and work there, but for the most part, trying to "make" them feel and experience emotion, to me, doesn't seem to be too helpful. It seems more like speaking French to a client who speaks English.

I guess my question is, since I'm still developing, I'm wondering how the rest of you feel about the use/misuse of emotion in therapy. Particularly, how Ericksonian methods deal with them.

    Thank you in advance,

    Trent
