Great question,Trent. People do not need to vent emotion per se in order to change. But often, good therapy is a significant emotional experience for the patient. Patients do well when they have experience change. Ericksonian work is essentially experiential. Experience can precipitate emotion. But, patients can vent emotion endlessly without changing.
