Thank you very much for your reply. I just scanned for the names on the net and will certainly have a closer look at the readings. I also would like to say something more about what I think is lacking in research and design on virtual communities (or is lacking in my search for information :-) I haven't been able to find a model that gives clear inside in the different levels at which one can view virtual communities. Most information I found consists of small and lose pieces of information. For example on very detailed design or psychological issues concerning 'presence', avatars, chat boxes, etc. On the other hand some information is very general. A clear link between these different levels (from general to detailed) is missing. I started trying to look at communities from a sociological perspective (community as defined in different ways within sociology). My goal is to go from here to more psychological issues and end up at the lowest level, the interface design and technical apects.
