I think you are completely right to say praise and shame! Punishment and lots of rules don't create a warm personal environment. Nice environments are created by the people and their communication. It's an exchange of trust that becomes more valuable over time and that gives people the feeling they belong..., have a relation with..., found acknoledgement.
