Exactly one of the things that I was intrigued by with my online communication. I thought that net could override preconceptions, by that very anonymity, but I soon found it wasn't so. The manner in which people write is very revealing about the person they are, and there are few topics that you can approach without some image forming in your mind of the person behind the words, even when you don't want to form opinions of them. For example, just asking someone their occupation puts them into categories of socio economic status whether you like it or not.
It is not always the case I know...but like it or not we are human and undertake these classifications I think subconsiously, as part of our natural defense mechanisms, these allow us to form judgements to determine whether danger is present...the strange thing I find is that there is little danger... but the mechanisms still apply. What do others think?
