I recently heard that there was a court case in which the defendant tried to claim he was suffering from "internet intoxication" when he committed some crime. I don't know all the details, but this sounds like a thin rationalization to me. Your use of the term is new to me. Some people online do present false information about themselves. There are a variety of reasons for that: playful joking, wishful thinking, a come-on in order to seduce people, etc. In some cases it might be an expression of a significant mental illness, but my guess is that those cases are more the exception than the rule.
