    Mental Health Professionals: Coping
    Brewster · 11/02/00 at 1:17 ET

I'm a layman with a casual sort of interest in people, their motivations, and interaction. The web has provided greater breadth and (perhaps) a deeper look at peoples' emotions and motivations.

I find myself wondering how mental health professionals are affected with all the diversity they must surely encounter, and whether or not it has an emotional impact. I'm certain "detachment" is necessary but are there times when the work becomes intrusive, or burdensome? Do pshrinks ever require pshrinks?

As an aside, I once enrolled in a listserv devoted to group dynamics. It was established by a psychiatrist who, somebody in the group mentioned, committed suicide.
