    The Psychology of On-line Community
    Girish Lala · 03/15/04 at 2:22 ET

Hi there - My name is Girish Lala, and I am studying toward a PhD at the Australian National University, located in Canberra, Australia.

I am working in the School of Psychology studying communities that develop on the internet. As part of my research, I am conducting web-based surveys asking people for their views about on-line communities that form around issues or causes.

Unfortunately, I have had a little difficulty in getting participants, and was wondering what levels of response others have had with their on-line research?

I was also hoping that I could get some suggestions about how I might get participants for my work. I am particularly interested in surveying people from groups that intend to engage in action, are open & un-moderated, and that allow some type of on-line interaction between members (e.g. posting to message boards, email list, etc.)

Finally, I have a version of my survey currently on-line, and would like to invite anyone who has a spare 5 minutes to visit my site and help out with my research.

You do not have to be a member of an on-line community to fill out this version of the survey, it can be completed by anyone. The survey can be found at :

    Thanks for any help.

    Girish..
