    New Case of Joseph Begins

    About the Case of Joseph

I am pleased to introduce Stephen Kusch who will be presenting the case of Joseph for us to study on the CLINICAL CASE CONFERENCE site.Professional psychotherapists and those in graduate training for that role may join in the discussion of the new case at:
    http://behavior.net/clinicalconference.html

Steve is a member of the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group and teaches Control Mastery Theory at the Wright Institute in Berkeley. He is offering us a fascinating case with some exceptional features. I won't spoil the unfolding but in the first installment Steve Kush reports:

"From early on --from the missed appointment and subsequent apologies, and the tale of the bad check --I formed two basic impressions about Joseph's problems. I also tried to form a hypothesis about how these two impressions might relate to each other, so that I could begin with a simple, unifying blueprint for helping Joseph."

His speculations follow. Please add your own.
It is a chance for us to look at a "easy" case! I hope you will all join in....

This Conference studies a series of clinical cases from several theoretical perspectives: Affect Theory, Classical Adlerian Psychotherapy, Cognitve Therapy, Control Mastery Theory and Self Psychology. Our purpose is to examine these theoretical orientations as they are employed in practice by master clinician/teachers of each orientation:

Affect Theory: Donald Nathanson, M.D., Vick Kelly, M.D.
Control Mastery Theory: Jessica Broitman, Ph.D.
    Cognitive Therapy: James Pretzer, Ph.D.
    Gestalt Therapy: Michael Vincent Miller
    Psychoanalysis: Johanna Tabin, Ph.D
    Self Psychology: Ernest Wolf, M.D.

You might also enjoy reading cases previously discussed in this conference are now available in archival
form at http://behavior.net/clinicalconference.html. They include cases presented by your colleagues Drs.Jamie Edmund and Polly Bloomberg-Fretter.
