I agree with your assessment that domestic violence and verbal abuse is underreported, and that education is one aid to prevention. I note that you work with a population that is notoriously subject to recidivism. I suspect that you know that education isn't enough to dissuade abusers from violation, nor is it enough to keep their children from copying the patterns that have brought the abusing parent so much power in a relationship. We need a multi-faceted approach, including education, also law enforcement that mitigates the need for abused person(s) to testify or press charges against abusers, and strong bully pulpit leadership that dissuades religious and political leaders from encouraging behaviors that help make a context for familial abuse, among other things.
