Dear Heather,I can imagine that setting up your program is really challenging. Educating doctors about the benefits of Art Therapy is a full-time job! I found it effective to find ready converts and get them to approach their own colleagues was also helpful. I worked exclusively with adults coping with illness, and I also found art therapy very effective with this population, helping them look at the monumental impacts of their illness experience and the personal changes which resulted. I also found that patients who had a history of sexual abuse re-experienced the sense of powerlessness and personal damage through their illness and medical interventions. I have finished my training now, and am starting a private practice in Smithers, B.C.. you (or anyone reading this) may feel free to email me at email@example.com. I would love to hear more about your work. Regards, Ruth
