I do not recall Freud using the term "Inferiority Complex" but I am certain that Adler coined the term. It grows out of exaggerated inferiority feelings. Fatalistically reacting to real or imagined situations and habitually acting without courage to solve the problem in a socially useful way, making no attempt to correct or improve the problem because it is useful as an excuse. A web of justification develops for why the problem must be and a feeling of specialness is embraced because of the magnitude of the defect. Bottom line, the deficit becomes its own compensation. A self-deception of overcoming. For Adlerians, an important part of therapy is to identify the source of this inferiority complex. For Freudians, identification of repressed psychosexual urges are key. This was a major bone of contention between the two.
