I am a counselor in training almost done with my MA. I am a mature women in her 40's. I found this site when taking Ethics in Psychotherapy and Counseling. I was doing research on dual relationships. I think it is too bad the letter from the woman was removed who had been "violated" by her therapist. I learned more from her plea for help and understanding than all the other research I did. This included statistics research like 3% of clients who have sex with their therapist end up marrying the therapist. (This means 97% "get dumped".) It also included 32% of these clients had been victims of incest or other child sex abuse, that 14% of these clients attempt suicide yet only 12% of therapists get turned in for sexual misconduct. This research also included discussion of traumatized victims in a group who had common experiences of "intrusive thoughts," self blame, guilt, cognitive dysfuntion, ptsd, flashbacks, nightmares, feeling of needing to protect the therapist, isolation and emptiness, emotional lability, and suicide ideation. There is nothing like a personal story to bring the heart and feelings forward. I think this woman's pain was valid for professionals to read. More research about this problem of sex between client and therapist is on a website by Kenneth S. Pope at http//kspope.com/sci//4329182.shtml Please consider having the place for personal stories. The heart of the therapist must be reached. And the conscience. SunriseSue
I personally would like to add her personal story to my other research. Should I teach someday, I know this is also what reaches the heart of the student. Is there somewhere I can send my e-mail address to you privately so I can have her story?
