Psychological testing shows nothing unusual. Meds work for a while, then stop. Everytime things go well, some thing new crops up. Multiple diagnoses over a long period of time. PTSD with no known precipitating event. Intact, apparently caring and concerned parents. Tantalizing clues to her past quickly pulled away when addressed. AND, a hospitalization for a physical illness when she was young that was difficult and stressful for the family. Mom did "the best she could". Dare I suggest that it may be time to consider Factitious Disorder? I'm not saying that's what it is, but is it time to consider that a possibility?
