    Semantics and Cybertherapy
Peter Chechele · 7/18/98 at 11:56 PM ET

I think part of the problem we are having providing this new form of "psychotherapy" is that we are handicapped by attempting to define online mental health services based on conventional psychotherapy as it is practiced in our offices. We would all agree that there is a large difference between these two forms of therapy. A new language might be helpful in distinguishing "cybertherapy", (by the way who came up with this term?) from psychotherapy. The further our language develops in this area the clearer the distinctions will be for provider and patient alike.
