I have working in the area of psychocardiology, trying to understand better the mind body connection linking heart disease and depresion. Pratt and Barefoot's data have shown that depression increases mortality rate approximately 5 fold and that depression in an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease. Two major mechansims for explaining this conncetion are through the study of heart rate variablity ( which is a proposed mechanism for sudden death) and platelets( which show an increase adhesiveness and may be responsible for throbogenisis leading to an MI) I am interested in hearing from any one who is thinking about these issues. In addtion, what are the heart rate variablity protocols that you or others are using and/or which platelet parameters are most helpfull to study?I am also interested in hearing about any other heart mind connections others may be pursuing Rob Feinstein M.D.
