OK, but just one last thing....
Paul Salkovskis · 7/7/99 at 3:27 pm ET

Fine, as you say. However, let me remind some, and inform those who don't know, of the essential features of Borderline Personality Disorder, the tentative diagnosis suggested for this person.
"A pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self image and affects, and a marked impulsivity beginning in early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five or more of: (paraphrased)

    1. Frantic efforts to avoid abandonment
    2. Patter no unstable and intense interpersonal relationships alternating between extremes of idealisation and devaluation
    3. Identity disturbance
    4. impulsivity in at least two potentially self-damaging areas (such as spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving)
    5. Recurrent suicidal behaviour....
    6. Affective instability
    7. chronic feelings of emptiness
    8. inappropriate intense anger or difficulty controlling anger
    9. transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociation symptoms.

This is, I think, important information when it comes to making up one's mind.
Nice having this brief discussion with you
    best wishes
    Paul
