    Re:sexual curiosity in childhood
    Marty Klein, Ph.D. · 11/03/01 at 2:23 PM ET

It is gratifying to see how sensible many of our colleagues are about this. I am continually shocked and dismayed by the number of clinicians who would describe this case as one of "abuse," needing some sort of serious intervention.
The described childhood behavior is totally "normal"--it is technically called "rehearsal behavior" and is an essential developmental task of all human beings.
Our field's intolerance of childhood sexuality is a historic error that says far more about individual practitioners and our profession than about children.
