attraction to evil/pain - research paper

this is just a high school paper, so don't throw the answer over my head, but what is the sexual attraction of evil? is it power? is it taboo? is it disguised S&M? is it that fear of death makes us want to reproduce while we can? is it an effect of repression, ie, they say sex is bad, and violence and pain are bad, so they must go together? or is it more ingrained in human nature than that? help, please!
