Why is there no enforced editorial policy here? Is it the tacit intention of the editor to have this forum deteriorate into nonsense from neglect of the "delete" key at the editor's control panel? What does it say about BOL that there is so little vigilance in setting standards for messages that can remain posted at this and at some other BOL forums? I'll tell you what I think it means. I think it means that BOL is an experiment that failed and now lives beyond its useful time. It failed and its time is gone because we have all learned very well and very rudely one very very important lesson from the BOL experiment, as follows: It is impossible to have a serious discussion forum that is open to just anyone at all who wants to post unless editors work diligently, often, and consistently in order to keep the forums cleared of nonsense and egregiously substandard messges. Since few editors have the time or inclination to enforce any standards, and since BOL software apparently will not allow a forum for only registered professional users who identifiy themselves, the BOL experiment at several of its forums has become an exercise in futile nonsense where editors do not diligently use the delete keys at their control panels. You can't have successful editors who don't edit.
