I raised this subject - public nudity on the Shame & Affect Forum but the topic was erased. For whatever reason it was deemed to be an inappropriate topic for discussion. Recently I saw a documentary about the photograhper who is challenging the establishment by taking pics of people nude, usually in the prone position at dawn, in front of public buildings & at other well known sites throughout the United States. In one photo a very large black young woman stood with a tall lean white young woman on the American flag in the middle of the road in what appeared to be industrial estate. They stood erect & proud. I thought it was a majestic statement. A great photograph. Both women discussed on video their feelings about being photographed nude before & after the shot was taken. The black woman said that she came from a very religious family & was quite uncertain about posing. She also said that she had been jumped & raped a few months before & felt very ashamed about that. Whatever help she had received from had not helped her to move on with her life. She was interviewed again some time later after the photos had been published & exhibited & she said that she had fully recovered her compusure & that having her photo taken had been 99% of the therapy. She now accepted that there was no need to feel ashamed about what had happened to her & she now felt good about herself.
