What most people are not very aware of is the fact that all files opened or written using web browsers in a computer allow other users of that computer to see the contends of those files, which are stored in the "history" and "temporary internet files" folders. Those of you that have web sites or homepages with e-mail address that we can click on and have a message sent through the www (many therapist's home pages do) should warn possible future clients of this problem. Your clients should also be advised to avoid the use of web-browser based e-mail accounts, or use the browsers to collect e-mail from other programms (pop mail). The files can however be deleted from the 'history' or "temporary internet files" folders after the web browsing, what should be OK. This is something sort of easy to forgett, though. Best regards to all Alex.
I am not a therapist but I would like to point out something about the security of using e-mail accounts on the WWW. Many people have hotmail or equivalent accounts. They are easy to use and to manage, they can be opened using incomplete personal info. etc. Most e-mail programms offered by internet providers can now be managed through the web.
