I am a member of Debtors Anonymous, a 12-step group (similar to Alcoholics Anonymous) that deals with money issues like compulsive spending and compulsive debting. During the last few years, several meetings have been started to deal with what we call time-debting. It is similar to what we do with money (using more than what we actually have). My personal opinion (not that of the 12-step fellowship) is that my time-debting is partially a result of my unwillingness to live in reality; especially in the reality of a limited amount of time and money. I believe it is an addictive process similar to substance abuse. Even as I write this message, I am time-debting. I am avoiding doing my homework toward a M.A. in clinical psych.
I am interested in hearing (i.e. reading) feedback about this, and other theories about this very disturbing problem.
Thanks.
A grateful, recovering, compulsive time debtor
